Admissions to the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) Program

AASN Program

The College admits students for August and January start dates. Admissions are selective.  There are two paths to admittance into the Nursing Program – Automatic Acceptance and Pre-Nursing.

Minimum Requirements for Automatic Acceptance into the Nursing Program

  • High School or Cumulative College GPA of 3.0 or higher or successfully completed GED with minimum scores of 2250 and 410 in each section.
  • Minimum official ACT score of 22 -OR- SAT score of 1530 (on the 2400 scale), 1110 (on the 1600 scale).GSC’s school code for the ACT is 3375 and our SAT code is 1259. Waived if out of high school more than 10 years.
  • Passed Chemistry and Algebra in high school or college
  • Minimum Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) composite score of 70 with minimum Science score of 45
  • Minimum ATI Critical Thinking Entrance Test score of 70

Minimum Requirements for Pre-Nursing Admission

  • High School GPA or Cumulative College GPA of 2.1 or higher or successfully completed GED with minimum scores of 2250 and 410 in each section.
  • Minimum official ACT score of 19 or SAT score of 1340 (on the 2400 scale), 990 (on the 1600 scale). GSC’s school code for the ACT is 3375 and our SAT code is 1259. Waived if out of high school <10 years.
  • Passed Chemistry and Algebra in high school or college
  • Minimum Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) composite score of 58
  • Minimum ATI Critical Thinking Entrance Test score of 61

To be fully accepted into AASN, the Pre-Nursing student must:

  1. Complete 2 GSC Science courses with a passing grade
  2. Achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  3. Remediate using ATI SmartPrep product
  4. Achieve ATI TEAS composite score of 62 or greater. If the student’s baseline score upon admission is less than 62, the student can retake the ATI TEAS up to two times within one year of completing the remediation.

We also accept transcripts electronically from official transcript providers (ie. National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment or eScript).  Foreign transcripts must be translated through WES or equivalent.

  1. ACT or SAT scores (if within the last 10 years)
    Request scores be sent from ACT or SAT to Good Samaritan College.
  2. Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) score and ATI Critical Thinking (CT) Entrance Test score

Additional Admission Requirements for LPN to AASN 

  • Must meet the admissions requirements for the AASN program.
  • Present a valid, unencumbered Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license.
  • Complete all pre-requisite courses for NUR 201 (see course descriptions in the catalog)
  • Successfully complete the approved NUR 150 LPN to AASN Transition Course (both theory and laboratory) once accepted here, or a transition course from an approved Ohio Articulation Model.  The student will be able to enter NUR 201 on a space available basis.

The Good Samaritan College campus is located in Good Samaritan Hospital, part of the TriHealth medical system.
